Mission/Description

The purpose of the Foundation is to prevent cruelty to animals and promote the humane treatment of animals, particularly companion animals (dogs, cats) and other species commonly kept as household pets. Requests related to wildlife and animals in other settings may also be considered.

Areas of Funding

In Ohio only: local, regional, or statewide programs that care for neglected animals, train those who care for animals, or increase public appreciation for animals(request our RFP for specific topics). In other Great Lakes states, and occasionally other areas: innovative regional or statewide programs designed to accomplish these same ends. Also, programs of National scope or significance in the following areas: research on humane pet population control and animal behavior; humane education; continuing education for shelter staff and volunteers; prevention of human-animal cruelty or violence; shelter medicine; and selected other topics of interest to the Foundation.

Geographic Focus
or Priorities

Ohio; some grants in other Great Lake states; and national grants. No grants outside the U.S.

Restrictions

No grants to individuals, for endowments, deficit reduction, or general operating support, or for capital expenditures outside Ohio. Recipient must be a non-profit organization in the United States, with IRS 501(c)(3) tax-exempt status. Programs should be primarily for animal rather than human benefit.
