Mission/Description |
In 2007, Dodge launched a new three-year Welfare of Animals initiative: Building Communities for People and Animals. This groundbreaking program, undertaken in partnership with the International Fund for Animal Welfare (IFAW), is starting to move animal welfare considerations into sustainable community design and planning. The anticipated outcome of the Building Communities for People & Animals initiative (now entering year-two) will be a road map for building fair, tolerant and cohesive communities that demonstrate a strong animal welfare ethic in their planning and day-to-day endeavors. In year-two, IFAW will: continue to build a database of best practices and tools; begin sending the flow of information back out to community planners, humane organizations, and other stakeholders; and launch a small mini-grant program to support innovative animal sustainability programs that can be incorporated into a sustainable community model. These mini-grants will be by invitation only and will address issues of companion animals, wildlife and agriculture animals. As a result of this initiative, and pending evaluation of its success, the Foundation is no longer accepting proposals under the New Jersey Animal Assistance Program. |
